Is it any wonder that the governments stimulus package for the economy is not working. I didnt doubt for one second that the 2.5% reduction in sales tax would do anything at all to boost sales with the general public.
As the recession deepens and every day the news brings with it the name of another highstreet brand that has called in the receivers, the spending public goes the opposite way and starts to hold on to their hard earned cash.
The sales in Oxford Street pulled the crowds in an unusual series of sales prior to Christmas to draw in the crowds. But they had to offer 20 - 30% off to tempt people with a bargain or two.
What kind of an effect did they think 36 pence off a £20 sweater would cause? Instead of taking 2.5% off they should have dropped all of the sales tax. Reducing many items by 17.5% on par with what we are offered in some shops. Or take the tax off petrol. With over 50% of the cost of fuel being tax, surely if we have that tax removed, the cost of delivery of all goods would lower. The price of food in the USA is far cheaper than here as they have much lower delivery costs. The whole problem really started to begin when costs started rising so much last year when the fuel cost was astronomical. Even the middle classes started to notice they couldnt afford to buy what they used to buy. It was getting to a stage where you knew it couldnt go on much longer. People would have enough and shout and scream and refuse to allow them to continue to take the amount they do. Much like the days of the Sherrif of Nottingham, the problems were founded when the Sherrif (Gordon Brown), taxed the hard working middle classes so much till they couldnt afford it anymore.
Then when the economy started to collapse they try and stimulate it with a 2.5% sales tax reduction. You took all the people had last year Gord, 2.5% is still not putting the money back into our pockets because the nation had to borrow so heavily due just to survive in the good times.
With the Dollar and Pound heading for 1 to 1, will the idea of a summer break be out of reach of the masses soon too? The one thing we yearn for each year to escape the misery and grey of old Blighty. I for one will be glad of the appearance of spring and with it the change it brings. If only we could change the PM this year too!

Entertaining Mr Chops
Having not seen the lovely Marcus chops for some months we invited him up for the weekend. He was due to fly to Holldand tomorrow so would have been in London anyway. But in the end his plans changed and so he came just for the one night on Saturday.
Dusan was away at work, so Chops arrived at 6PM and we had to drive around a wee bit till we could find a place to park over night. Then sat down and watched some televison while I cooked us some food.
We then cracked open some wine and started to play on the Wii. Aerobics and Balance games are one thing when you are sober but when you have had some wine its something else entirely. We both laughed and laughed and laughed until tears were littereally falling down our faces as we attempted to ski, ski jump, walk the tightrope and all sorts of other games on the Wii fit.
Dusan arrived home fairly late but we all sat up and talked till the wee hours. Chops left mid afternoon and was truly fabulous to see him again.
I cooked, cleaned and ironed some shirts and now ready for an early night. Fabulous to see you Marcus Chops! X

Whatever happened to customer service?
You know it seems these days you can not glance at the media without feeling negative. Banks about to go bankrupt and end up under nationalisation. Mainstream companies are folding left right and centre. Meanwhile the entire country is scared beyond belief. Nobody knows if there job is safe. If the recession will last one year or two. If the hope that everyone has right now with Barrack Obama taking the office of presidency. Nobody knows what will happen.
Reading the news this evening the pound has taken another battering. RBS and Lloyds have lost most of their value and the fact that the one thing that Brits love to do, travel abroad makes it really gloomy.
Now add to that the fact that its wet, cold, grey and drab, everyone is feeling the blues.
But this could be different if it wasnt so glum in our fair land. If you got service with a smile and treated well. This morning I left my train at before 745AM and were met by a team of little hitlers at the ticket booth. Far from the trains providing people to assist and help people through they are only offering staff for one thing. Profits. To sue and ensure anyone with an incorrect ticket gets a criminal record. Its discusting. They make 30 Million per francise for 6 months of providing a service and still their greedy. Its gross beyond belief. Further more, the train companies have applied to the government for permission to cut services and reduce the length of trains, despite an increase of between 6-10% on fares this month. Why? Their passenger numbers have not risen as much as expected. 5.5% instead of 7%. Can the staff of Zavvi, MFI or Woolworth request less stores or less operating hours? No? Can they up prices 8-10 percent overnight? No? Who gave these francisee's the liscense to be so arrogant and greedy? Surely its time for a change here like in America. A time for the peoples revolution. Where we stand up and say, enough is enough, we will not allow this country to fail. We will not allow our rights to be taken. We will not allow the government to take every right we have. But it takes something in return. We all must work hard now, labour. Cut back a little and be a little thrift till it all eases over and a boom time returns. Till then, would the little hitlers at the gate have a little courtesy, after all we pay your salaries.

2 years ago last weekend
Dusan is always good at remembering dates. This past week signified 2 years since the day he moved in. Two years already? I cant believe how fast it has flown by already. So good to have him home again I guess we have been busy enjoying ourselves and well time flies when you are having fun.
Yesterday the restaurant was quiet and he has been working loads so they offered him a chance to go home as they didn't need the extra bodies. He slept most of the day and was asleep on the sofa by 830PM. Poor sausage is worn out and needed some rest.
We have been trying to find ideas for a holiday(lucky bitches), and had thought about a cruise.
The weekend flew by with a lovely lunch with Richard and Mark at a cute little pub just north of the river in Wapping. Saturday night XXL and then Sunday a day chilling.
Today is back to work once more but will be watching the news awaiting with welcome the new president taking his appointment, I believe the World is watching and hoping for a positive change.

Could Gordon Brown organise a drink up in a Brewery?
What on earth is wrong with the man? He threw 30 odd Billion Pounds at the banks just three months ago in order to free up lending and stimulate the economy. Did it free up lending? No. Did it stimulate the economy? No. The whole fiasco has been brewing for years as Britons now have personal debts in excess of 1 Trillion Pounds and what does our stupid Prime Minister tell everyone to do. Go out and spend more.
Far from going out and spending more, I like everyone else have cut back spending. Trying to hold on to the one thing everyone is scared of loosing. Hard earned cash.
I was once given a self improvement CD by a gentleman called John Rhon. There is a line in it that I always remembered. After every winter, no matter how cold comes a spring, after every night comes a day and after boom comes a bust. It always happens. But as sure as the bubble bursts, gradually, over time, the economy starts to grow again.
Now I knew that. All everyone was saying for the past 3 or 4 years was how house prices could not keep rising at 15% plus per year. We all knew the bubble would burst. We all knew it except for one man, our former chancellor of the exchequer. How can the man who once ran the countries purse for 10 years not know that things could be prosperous forever? Further more make statements such as "I am the man who ended an era of boom and bust. Well far from end it. Apparantly we are up the creek without a paddle. Our national Debt was £612 Billion, meaning every child that is born today is born owing a deficit of £17,000.
Meanwhile Gordon and his chimpanzee's are talking about lending £300 Billion more to the troubled banks in order to free up lending again. How much more will this be costing us in tax pounds in the years to come?
Its one thing for me to disagree with their current policy. But when they tear up their own rules on fiscal spending (Currently 44% of GDP is Debt and last year the interest payments on this Debt were £38 Billion. Over half a billion per person in this land!
Maybe new labour are not that different from old labour after all. Wasn't there a time when Income Tax was 90%.
While I don't have the answers to the problems I have to raise the question, when can it ever end? Will they borrow and borrow until we finally have to go begging the IMF for a hand out? If they dont end up soon we will be like Iceland, bankrupt. Who ended boom and bust again Gordon?

Little Snax comes to town
Fourteen years after we first met, little Debbie had flown over to the UK as her little sister Katie was getting married. The weddning was in Wales at the weekend so Sunday she took a train to Paddington where I met her at the station.
Debbie was one of my dearest friends back at Walt Disney World, we had shared magic, shared tears and shared laughter. Having not seen her since we last caught up in Boston in 2005 it had been a long long while.
So arriving at Paddington we took a train home to the flat so we could drop her bags. I had asked if there was anything that she really wanted to do but it was more about catching up. We chatted about times past, times news. Then took a trip on the DLR to Canary Wharf to see the new area of the city and show Debbie the route she would be taking the next morning. We stopped by at Chillis's for a cocktail.
When we got back I cooked a Roast Chicken and Debbie said she had as some surprises. The first was a wedding gift each. Something for Dusan and I. She bought us a beautifull Disney Partners watch. Then she pulled out this folder and spotting a Mickey Mouse Card I said... "I have that Staionary". She had bought every letter I ever wrote her. They dated back from when she left Disneyworld to go home to Illinois and were as old as November 1995. Letters from a day when we didnt have the internet. Cards I had written, post cards I had written, letters I had written. Letters about things I did at Disney, Letters about trips back to the States. Letters talking about dreading leaving. Letters talking about wishing I was back there. There she had every letter and card I had ever written and on them the sat the memories of my years at Disney. Reading them was like taking a trip down memory lane. I could feel the emotion, the feer of saying goodbye and coming home.

But we did it. We all went, had the time of our lives, left and survived. Like the saying goes, what doesnt break you will make you stronger. Disney gave us the foundations to be the people we are today. The drive to succeed. Afterall, at 22 for me and just 19 for Debbie we achieved our goal and worked at Disney World.
After work last night we went on to Cafe Rouge and met Debbies friend from Disneyland Paris, Amita. Cafe Rouge seemed appropriate as they met in Paris. We all enjoyed dinner together.
Debbie and I have promised 2 things. We will write again. Not email or facebook, but write letters and cards like we used to. Secondly, the letters and cards we wrote back then, we will swap. For the ones she now has from me are my memories, the ones I will have from her will be her's.
Safe trip home Debbie xx

Back to work
After almost 2 weeks of sporadic work it was back to the grindstone for most of London today and with it came the new fares for the trains. If its not bad enough that they are allowed to increase fares by 6 - 11% at a time when they should be reducing the cost to encourage people onto mass transit and out of their cars.
It seems all that Labour was once good at, Nationalisation is long gone. Sure the tories privatised the trains and the utilities and practically sold off the whole country. Do the trains run more regular? No. Are the value for money? No. So it was even more annoying that there was only a single ticket booth open and a line a mile long this morning of commutters needing to purchase new tickets. Of course there were people there making sure you paid, but only one to sell tickets. Crazy Britain.
Meanwhile Gordon Brown and that clown Darling seem intent on bankrupting us all by borrowing more and more money till tomorrows children are still paying off todays debts. Thats modern Britain. Hey ho.
Meanwhile the recession sets in further with even more shops folding and thousands heading for the dole queues. They say up to 1600 shops could close this year forced into liquidation. Seems these days you cant open the paper without hearing of another company folding. Makes you wonder who will be next.
We have been looking for a deal on a new flat screen televison as ours is starting to die. Thinking that we would pick up a great deal in the new year we decided to wait but no real bargains were to be had in most stores. The odd £50 here or £100 there. Only Commet had any deals that were remotely intesting. Meanwhile Curry's were offering half price TV stands. No wonder the store was full of people not purchasing anything. I think the consumer wants a fantastic deal and as someone in the chat room at work said today "I'll only buy if its 50% off or more". Crazy times and a crazy year lie ahead.

XXL - Final blast of the season
I had purposely taken New Years Day off so that we could go to Market at Fabric with Woody, Steve & Carlos. But I felt far from well on New Years Day. It wasnt a hangover, but something had me rather ill. I personally blame the Iceland snacks I foolishly thought I would try. I am sure the cardboard box was more nutritious.
With us both feeling poorly, it may have been a bit of a virus. We both managed to catch up on some much needed sleep.
Saturday Dusan was on a 9-6 shift and was still feeling a little dissapointed after he worked New Years Eve and spent 3 hours in a line outside a club in Vauxhall to get into a club. Apparantly they had they trapped against the wall behind barriers. He stood outside for nearly 3 hours waiting to get in. Come on people, this isnt right. Especially when its so cold. So I suggested on Saturday evenin once he was home that he had a disco nap and I would wake him at 22:30 and we could go to XXL for a few hours. His face light up in that puppy smile he gives me. So I knew this was a good idea. We left the flat at 23:00 and arrived just before midnight. It was Leather XXL and immediately you could tell it was an alternative crowd from the normal XXL people. Stepping in was like being in a leather bar in San Francisco as Moustache and Chap's clad men seemed to be standing everywhere. The whole place had a very "Tom of Finland" feel about it and what many would infact have called the old "Leather Clone gay man" look. I wonder when it changed. To me that whole Freddy Mercury, Moustache, leather jeans look is so 70's, 80's. When did the modern day gay start to shave their head? In truth if you go to any gay bar there are more shaved heads than not. The Moustache and leather trousers have preety much dissapeared in place of Jeans and an Ambercrombie and Fitch Tee Shirt. Of course there are the leather bars. I guess the whole scene is more commercial now. No longer forced out into the suburbs of Earls Court but mainstream in Soho & the newest gay village, Vauxhall.
We had fun and bumped into Matt & Chris in the club. Dusan had to work from 10:00 on Sunday we promised not to stay too late. Matt was leaving at just before 3:00 and asked if we wanted to share a taxi. Great when you all live in the same complex isnt it?
We both agreed the complex here is rather unique that unlike many places in London where neighbours do not talk to each other, it has a community. Infact sometimes it feels like the set of friends as you walk outside and cant help but spot a friendly face.
This morning, back to the grindstone. We seem to have had the first sprinkling of snow, which is making me less than willing to jump in the shower and start to get ready. Still go in early and I can leave in time to hit the gym.
Happy New Year from us both!

New Years Eve 2008
Well to tell the storey correct I would have to say we were drunk as we arrived. I had been told I should arrive in Black Tie or Evening Dress. So one wore aprorpriate dress. Well the others arrived and seemed Matt had lied about all the boys wearing dresses. Oh well, always one for a laugh me.
We had a few drinks and chatted in his flat for 4 hours waiting for the final hours of 2008 to count down. I had picked up a few party platters when I had gotten off the train at a shop I dont frequent, Iceland. We all agreed that while Mums may go to Iceland Gays go to Waitrose. What a pile of poop. It was like synthetic junk. No wonder Kerry Katona has pilled on the weight. I dont think I will be going back there again.
Midnight came around and we nipped out on to the Roof Terrace to watch the fireworks that errupted over London town then due to the bitter cold, came in to watch the spectacular on the BBC over the River Thames. Its nice that London now puts on a World Class Show as Greenwich Mean Time hits midnight.
Just before midnight Tall Lee arrived, his a professional Magician and had been out at gigs all evening. We asked his to do a few tricks for us. He was brilliant and we had our own private Magic Show. I rememeber at some stage being given the phone and talking to Julian Clary.
Best of all, I could stagger home from the party to my own flat in 2 minutes flat. One SE8 is a fabulous place to live. Its actually become a community of friends and in a city the size of London where neighbours dont talk, its nice to have freinds within the complex. Happy New Year one and all and huge thanks to Steve for his New Year Hospitality.
