Ajjacio

What a transition over night. That’s the most amazing thing about a cruise. It often reminds me of a book I once read as a child about the adventures of the faraway tree. The Children would climb this tree and each day a different land were at its top, far above the clouds above. Our ship would leave a port one evening and by morning we were docked in a new place with wonders a new.

From the rubbish filled streets of Naples which was a far cry from the fabulous ruins of Pompeii, we were docked in the beautiful city of Ajaccio. Not being one for Geography I didn’t realise that it was in fact a French Island now and no longer Italian. The contrast was incredible. Palm Trees, Golden Beaches, immaculately landscaped gardens, buildings in tip top condition.

We wandered around the town centre and then jumped on the little tourist road train that for 10 Euros took us on a 90 minute journey around the Island and to some of its many sites including the home of Napoleon and the Napoleon Monument. After the tour we found a nice little patisserie and enjoyed a pastry and then a bottle shop to get some nice Vin Rouge. Something to enjoy in the cabin later.

With the temperature rising and a tan beckoning we made it back to the ship and ended a very pleasant day in the sunshine by a nice sauna, steam and hot tub in the cruises Spa and then joint our shipmates for dinner in the Botticelli restaurant. A table we share with Margot & Rob, Gerry & Marianne and Bryan and Anne.
