Dusan and I were both a little excited at visiting Barcelona. A city we had both wanted to see for quite a while, but to this end, Dusan insisted we were up early, to go and have breakfast at the Horizon Court up on deck and watch the city make its final approach into the dock.
Shortly after 0800 the Captain was on the tannoy announcing that we were docked, the ship was secure and we could go ashore via the gang ways on decks 6 and 4. We purchased some transfer tickets for the shuttle into town from the pursers desk and by 0815 were stood on the outskirts of the city.
Armed with nothing more than the tourist map they were handing out as we disembarked, we zigzaged our way accross the city streets, enjoying the architecture and taking a coffee stop to ensure we had enough caffein to keep going with the early start. By 0900 you could tell it was going to be a scorching day. We zigzaged some more eventually finding ourself at Gauddi's Cathedral. Something that has been under construction for over 100 years. We paid the 12 Euro entrance and went inside and toured the museum in the vaults. By 1130 we were done and the heat was begining to rise. The backbacks we wore were begining to cause persperation spots on our backs so we decided to stop and have a bite to eat and a jug of Sangria (of course) on a streetside cafe. Then wandered the streets of the gay village before making our way back towards the ship. For once I had let Dusan navigate for the day. Only he kept telling me the ship was one direction and I couldnt help but feel my entire body was saying no, its South. Down the hill. Surely the water has to be at the bottom? We argued for a moment over who was right, then I flagged down a taxi. The last thing we wanted was to be stuck ashore as the ship sailed on. I was right. Sometimes you have to go with your instint eh? We enjoyed Barcelona but after all that walking was glad to get out of the sun (My tans coming along nicely) and back into the airconditioned comfort of the ship.
