Love is a very splendid thing

Having done all of my chores of the day, including completely mopping all of the floor space I sat at the computer and tuned into Richard Newman on Gaydar Radio who had a caller on the telephone saying that today was to be he and his partners Civil Partnership. In just a couple of hours they would be tied in marriage. Richard asked the caller how long they had been together. 9 years said the chap. Then Richard asked him, Do you still love each other as much now as back then?. The chap answered, If not more.

It was almost enough to bring a tear to my eye. Dusan and I often discuss that. How we love each other as much today, if not more than we did over five years ago when we first met. Good luck to the couple, may you have a lifetime of happiness together.

Over the past few weeks several of my friends have talked to me about the past year and how fast it has gone. Next month is a year since we got married. Dusan moved in almost 18 months ago. As we have always said when people have asked, How do you knmow that his the right one. You simply know when you have found your soul mate.

Some of our closest friends had their reservations as good friends would. Worried that you are rushing into something and that you are just caught up in the emotion of the moment. Of course not all of them got to meet Dusan back in the early days. I kept him hidden from my family for a fair while as introducing the folks is a big step.

It was nice to hear my friends say at the weekend that they are so pleased for me and what a lovely man Dusan is. How happy they are for us both and they were happy that we were so happy together.

I wont claim that its all a bed of roses. Everyone has their disagreements but all in all its been a fabulous year. We have finally made the move back to London and are able to have a social life once more and we are far closer to all our friends.

This afternoon I was watching the catchup of Desperate Housewives as I missed it on Wednesday. As they all waited watching the rescuse services try and see if they could find the missing children under the flattened house my heart felt the emotions they would have been going through. The fear of losing your soul mate. Someone you spent your entire life trying to find and eventually find that piece of Utopia. That has to be my greatest fear right now. That anything should happen to Dusan. When he doesnt come home on time I worry, when he goes to the shops late at night I worry, but then we are a family now. Albeit only the 2 of us, but we are a family and we look out for each other. Care about each other and for once life is not about I or he, but the greater we. Now thats a life worth celebrating. Nowonder this blog is called "Lucky Bitches".

A whole new world

I dont know what made me think about how it was when I was younger today. Growing up gay that is. Dusan and I swear that the youth of today are so much camper due to the fact that they have never hidden their sexuality. The world has changed so much in just the last ten years. At least in this country. I am gratefull every day that we live in a country where Homosexuality is not only legal but recognised in law. There are sadly 77 countries in the world where being gay could result in a jail sentence, beating or even at worse execution. God bless them.

I was thinking back as to when did I first start using Gaydar? When was it that I first realised that I was not the only one but mearly a splash in the gay ocean. I can remember, months before I came out I used to go and see a sort of therapist. His name was David and he lived off the Caledonian road, near Kings Cross. He wasnt a real specialist but was something to do with helping people with rebirthing. My friend Daniel had reccommended him.

I met him for a consultation and went back for about 6 weeks running discussing my sexuality, coming out and the problems it entales.

Back then, and I am talking about 1998, not that long ago, when David suggested that in order to meet other like minded men I should write a personal's add and send it to one of the publications. Maybe Gay Times or something like that. Six short weeks I saw David, the conclusion being that I ended up going along to the London Coming Out group, Turning Point, where on week one I met my first boyfriend and well, as Mark (Lavern) says, I didnt come out but burst out of the closet so fast that the doors are still off the hinge.

We didnt have the luxury of the internet. You couldnt chat online to other gay men. Tyhe only way you could meet other gay men was to go to either a gay bar in soho or Earls Court of maybe a club like Heaven or G-A-Y.

It just seems so much easier now, they have it all quite litterally at their finger tips where as we had to venture out to Soho or perhaps the Heath.

I wouldnt trade my time for the world though. I have my wonderful husband and a great home and loving family. I dont envy the kids who had it all, for the world has changed just as dramatically. It seems not a day passes when you turn on the television and hear of another teenager or younger stabbed to death over a dissagreement. The children have no respect and the world seems a lot more crazy. I Cant say it wasnt crazy back when I was a child, I mean we had men chasing ghosts (Ghostbusters), Alien beings that cant eat after midnight (Gremlins) and a flying car that could go back and forward in time. Not forgetting a manequin that came to life.
It was what in my mind will always be known as the right time to grow up. Post Cold war, pre the break down of society and values and pro fabulous.

Dinner with the girls

Having not seen Lisa or Gill in almost a year since the wedding it was with glee that when we were talking earlier this week she said they were off to see a show in town tonight and would be meeting up before hand.

I met them just after five and we had a nice meal, glass of wine and a nice catch up, albeit a short one. I guess thats the great thing about dear friends. It doesnt matter how long you are appart or how long it is between talking, true friends can pick up as though it was just yesterday. Great to see you both again girls. Lets do it again too.! :-)

Bank Holiday Washout

If it were Roman times I am sure we would be blaming the Gods for the bad weather on one of our few bank holiday weekends.

Although it was rather warm, the precipitation was heavy.

We had hoped yesterday to possibly go to the "I love Vauxhall" street fayer, but as it was pouring with rain decided that was a waste of time.

Dusan already had plans with his friends from work to go to Fire and told me yesterday that they had arranged to meet at 1900. A little early for a club. He was concerned that I had no plans for the evening. So I got on the phone and checked what people were doing. Lee & Matthew were going to the RVT which would be clearly rammed. I called Stuart who told me they were off to The Eagle for the Sunday Tea Dance.

So we both went to Stuarts for drinks pre going out on this nasty wet weekend.

Iionnis was home from work around 1815 and we headed the short walk to Vauxhall and then joint one of the longest queues you have ever seen for a Sunday afternoon Pub. Around 1 hour standing in line. As we queued around the building there was the odd homophobic abuse shouted by the odd mini cab driver. Excuse me, what happened to live and let live and you are clearly a long way from your home land my friend. It feels that some Londoners are so angry. No wonder there are so many stabbings.

Vauxhall used to be my home, now I dont even feel safe on the side of the street in Vauxhall. Have the Police lost control?

Stayed at the Eagle until nearly Ten PM, but then, thanks to a lack of food I needed to get home and relax. It was weird, despite the fact that I was out I knew not a single face in the crowd. It must prove how transient the populous of London is.

Today we were due over at Richard & Marks for a day at the Hot Tub they have hired, but apparantly its washed out due to the rain. We will see what we end up doing. Bring on the sunshine!

Now apparantly they are telling us, we drink too much

I know one should not discuss politics amongst friends but I have to have a channel to vent my thoughts one way or another.

Today the news over all the headlines is that Britons are drinking way too much and many do not realise how many units they are drinking every week. But the same people that are telling us that we are drinking too much are the ones that are driving us to drink. The politicians.

In 2008 Britons are paying almsot the same levels of tax as in Victorian days. The cost of fuel and foods are increasing seemingly week by week and all the time they are taxing us more and more.

Take fuel tax for example. Its not a set amount but a percentage so now that the cost of petrol has doubled so has the amount that the dear treasury take. Its about 75% of the value you pay at the pump. Now maybe I am wrong in my thinking but surely this tax is one of the causes of the entire cost of living rising? Surely if they reduced the burden on fuel, especially on freight fuel, the cost of foods could actually come down. Perhaps we could end up with foods costing something more similar to those in the United States?

Meanwhile Gas & Electricity are due to rise again and yet they tell us that the official inflation rate is only really 2.5%.

I put this to you, is it actually not fact that the reason that Britons are choosing to drink more and more is actually caused by the fact that every single aspect of life is now being monitored in a big brother State.

People cant smoke in public any longer, they cant afford to heat their homes and thanks to airport tax costing as much as flight to Europe they cant afford holidays as much as they used to. The only person that seems to be benefiting is the treasury and meanwhile we the people are left to do what? The same thing that we have done in this country for hundreds of years. Even back in the days of Robin Hood the people of Briton have enjoyed their drink. Tax it as you might Mr Brown, we will have some vices in life even if you tax us to death.

Away with Work

Once more my work has had me packed up and living out of a suitcase, much because of the awful commute that it is to simply get in and out of the city.

Tonight a few of us went to dinner, post work, to a bplace called Egham where we managed to find a little bistro for dinner. It was Helen's idea to go there but as Sinead and I arrived way before her, found a small wine bar where we could enjoy a quick apperitif (lucky bitches) before dinner.

The service was great and the snacks so yummy that we decided to possibly stay there and dine fully. When Helen finally arrived it was strange as not only was the place directly opposite the church she was married in, it turned out that the bistro was formerly a Butcher's shop that was owned by her uncle.

Dinner was devine then it was back in time to unwind in front of the apprentice. I dont know what it is that is so drawing to that television show but it really gets you pulled in. This week it was Raef's turn to be fired. Much the the dismay of the viewer.

I now unwind in bed, knowing I have to be up in a matter of hours. Roll on the long holiday weekend!

3000 Readers

In just under 3 years we have now clocked up over 3000 readers to our posts at Lucky Bitches. We should know, for we are those Lucky Bitches :-)

Legs astride the Meridian

With the warm weather forcast to continue for the rest of the week and Dusan up early today for a day shift I asked him to make sure I was awake before he left so that I could make the most of the day and the sunshine.

His alarm was around 9 and he left at 10, kissing me goodbye. Where upon I turned over the pillow and laid my face against the cool side of the cotton. Isnt it fabulous to feel the touch of cold cotton on your skin when its a boiling hot day or night?

I fell back to sleep within minutes and before I knew it half the morning was gone again. I clearly needed the catch up of sleep.

Once I did finally rise I made the bed, cleaned the appartment and put together a bag with some study books I am working my way through. With Royal Greenwich Park just down the road and the sun in the sky I decided to make the most of it and take a walk to the park. It was around 26 degrees in the shade and the perfect day for a strole.

The main road, opposite our appartment, leads directly into Greenwich high street. I have never walked it before and was quite surprised at where I came out right by the Cinema and Cafe Rouge. Literally minutes from the complex. Will definitely be making the most of the locations facilities.

Within 15 minutes walk I was in the Royal Park. Its one of those massive parks with Tree's that are literally hundreds of years old. For generations people of all walks of life, nobility to the working man have enjoyed the park in all seasons.

Today it was packed with locals and tourists alike. People playing cricket, frizby, sunbathers and picknicers. I found a nice spot on a slight hill over looking the old Maritime Museum with the sky scrapers of the financial district of Canary Wharf just beyond. It was literally the perfect weather for the park. Not too hot, not too cold, just right.

Have not been to Greenwich park in years. Its home to the Royal Observatory and of course the Meridian Line directly in the middle of two time zones and where mid day is litterally half way around the globe. They have marks on the floor where you can , as they say, have your legs astride the Meridian. When I told Dusan this he said that only a slapper would want their legs in two time zones at once. We did laugh.

Came home in time to do an hour at the gym and put on a chicken ready to relax for the rest of the evening. Hoping that this weather will last for the rest of the summer

Feeling Hot Hot Hot

Well after about 8 or so months of winter and there was no spring at all, it went from virtually 3 degrees to 26 degrees over night.

I went to work this week and didnt even need my jumper. It was fabulous.

We were both off today and Dusan had a dentist appointment while I slept in and then we did some shopping before spending the night at home watching TV and relaxing. Its too hot to do much else. Its never just warm, always Cold or Humid. Still I love summer so bring it on! :-)

Beautifull Morning for a Drive

I have never been one for early mornings, believe me when I say I can struggle to get out of bed at 8:00AM but this morning was different. IThe alarm went off at 05:30AM and with it I jumped immediately out of bed and made a caffetier of coffee having a quick wash and shower and was ready to head out the door just a few minutes after the 6:00AM headlines had been read on Sky News.

Somehow its just so much more do-able when the sun is shinning. The morning reminded me of that feel I would have in Florida when I was on the early shift and had to be on the Vistaway Shuttle by 7:15 in the morning. Walking to the shuttle stop at that hour with the sun already low in the sky and knowing that right now at this moment is the coolest that the entire day will be. Thats how it felt this morning. The sun was already shining, the window on my car open instead of the heat on.

Leaving at 6:00AM meant that I could spend an additional night at home and who wants to travel to a work location on a bank holiday? Knowing that the traffic this morning would likely be as heavy as a usual Monday in London traffic, I was out of the car park and on the road by 6:10. That extra hour makes the world of difference. The roads were practically empty and being so early one can also use the bus lanes (they are only bus lanes from 7:00AM). My route in takes me a bit out of the way but the extra miles are worth it. It can cut out an hour of sitting in traffic between home and the Elephant. A joke considering its less than four miles. So I go the long way, via Surrey Quays which leads me to Tower Bridge Road, via Elephant and then past the Imperial War Museum. (Apparantly there is a James Bond exhibition on there at the moment - Hmmm might give that a visit next week). Then the best part of the Journey as I head over the Bridge at Whithall. The sun was beaming into the car and already at before 7 the pavements were scattered with joggers running in the early morning.

From there I make a left and head down the Embankment past Vauxhall Bridge and the MI6 building and past Battersea Power Station and Battersea Park.

It certainly feels like summer is on its way. Lets hope that its not short lived this year and we can all enjoy a nice summer.

The most ironic thing about my journey is that I was at the office by 7:30AM and I dont start till 10:30. But at least it was stress free. Roll on summer! :-)

The most of precious things

I came home tonight and Richard and Mark asked us if we had seen "The Flood" on TV last night. It was one of those programs where you watch the trailer and think "I really must record this", but then forget all about it and dont see another trailer.

Thanks to modern technology the days of missing a program are long gone. What with C4 On Demand, BBC I Player and ITV.Com we can catch up with all of the missed programs within a month of missing them.

So I had some dinner, enjoyed a glass of wine, jumped in the shower and shaved and then sat on the laptop with my sound proof headphones on enjoying the 2 part series of the Flood. Apparantly they spent £15 Million on making it. I have watched the first two hours on my lap top and now am watching the concluding part live on ITV.

I have always been a sucker for disaster movies. I dont know why, I just always loved them but it makes you think and reflect upon the things that you really would care about and I could come to a definitive conclusion that I could live without many things but I couldnt live without my babycakes Dusan. Not after all we have been through to be together. Thats the one thing I could never live without.

I still find it hard to relect upon my life and how things are so fabulous now and what a transistion I have made. I'll admit I am more than a few pounds heavier than I would really like to be and maybe there are places in the world I wished I had seen but as yet have not. But to have found the love of my life and to both be in love with each other as much today as when we first met, well thats priceless. Thats my Utopia and I am forever gratefull.

I guess that as I spend another night home alone and just watching TV or chatting to friends online, I realise that maybe the reason I stay home as opposed to going out is that I have no reason to go anymore. Unless someone calls or invites me to something I dont need to go out looking for something as I have exactly what I want right here at home. A nice home, a loving partner and a wonderfull life!

Lunch at the Mayflower with Mark & Richard

Having not seen the leather queens in a while, Mark and Richard invited us over to join them for a pub lunch either in town or down at an out of town pub in the burbs.

As the weather was so warm and sunny we decided that it was perfect for a trip to the Mayflower. Dating back to the 16th Century the Pub was named after one of the most famous boats ever built that carried some of the Pilgrim fathers over from England to America.

The pub was redecorated in 1957 and an outer Jetty has been built directly over the Thames. The pubs food is always outstanding and on a nice summers day you cant beat a nice lunch overlooking the river.

We all arrived, ordered a drink and took a table on the Jetty while we perused the menu's. Suddenly there was a surge of water that came under the decking, hit the edge of the pub and errupted through the decking soaking half of the people at the back of the decking. Everyone laughed and a few people moved including us to a dryer zone. Moments later a second wave came without warning and shot directly through the decking soaking an entire table. A third splash and people were getting soaked left right and centre. Thames River water is not really somthing that you want in your beer or on your dinner. Moments later, the proprietor came out and declared that he would closing the water tight doors and that everyone had to vacate the decking. Thankfully we managed to find a table inside and enjoyed a lovely lunch in great company.

Dusan has now headed to work and I will spend the night at home, packing ready for another week away at work.

I finally found the cable and only 2 made the cut!

May Day Bank Holiday

Had been looking forward to an extra lie in this week, especially as Dusan has been working on the closing shift and I have had much interupted sleep.

It wouldnt be so bad if he could just lie still instead of bouncing around the bed half of the night, then wakes me up entirely as he sits on top of me, reaching over to get my glass of water. Doesnt matter that I tell him to take one of his own to bed. Of course, me being the insomniac means that I cant get back to sleep and have been awake since 645 this morning, although I did manage to doze on and off. Ever notice how when you are in doze mode its when you have the weirdest dreams.

The weather has really warmed up and even at midnight last night it was warm enough for just a tee shirt and shorts. Naturally we had the windows open to allow for a little air. Hoping that the world alike would be enjoying a nice lie in too. Naturally I was to be proven wrong as the noise of a Lawnmower roared in the midmorning peace. It reminded me much of my days living at Disney in Vistaway and how we were often worken up by the gardeners who persistantly decided to use the strimmer outside your window at 730 in the morning.

Why our green quad had to be mowed on a Bank Holiday weekend I will never know. I was quite surprised to see an old boy pushing it around the large square and not relaxing on a sit down mower, considering how much grass there is here to cut.

We are now up and enjoying a coffee before we have to make our way over to Mark & Richards and are off to the Mayflower to have lunch on the River. Then it will be home to pack and off to work for the rest of the week.

At least it feels like summer is finally on its way :-)

Vote for your country

Okay, so it was only the bi elections for local county councils and for us in London in particular who will be the next Mayor and London assembly. The powerfull head of the Assembly's £12 Billion budget. I was working all day yesterday at an office near to Heathrow so was pleased to be allowed away in time to get home and head to the local primary school that was closed for the day and between 7AM and 10PM was the local polling office.

We had to vote of 3 things, London Mayor, 1st and 2nd Choice, Local council and London assembly member.

Unlike in Essex in London we get given large printed A4 sheets that once completed you do not fold but place, face down onto a Ramp that slides them into a big secure box where I guess they are scanned for the results.

It was to be a big election as its really the first time that the country could speak with their vote as to how they feel about the current government and way things are run.

Waking up this morning I am reminded much of 1997 when Labour won a landslide victory snatching power from the Tories after years of reign. This time the Tories have stormed ahead with 44% of the vote, Labour on 24% and Liberal Democrats on 25%, sliding Labour for the first time into 3rd Place. Of course these are only local council elections and no change of power will happen in Parliament and the biggest vote of them all, the Mayorall race as to who will head city hall is still to be anounced and we wait eagerly for the results!"!!!
