Vote for your country

Okay, so it was only the bi elections for local county councils and for us in London in particular who will be the next Mayor and London assembly. The powerfull head of the Assembly's £12 Billion budget. I was working all day yesterday at an office near to Heathrow so was pleased to be allowed away in time to get home and head to the local primary school that was closed for the day and between 7AM and 10PM was the local polling office.

We had to vote of 3 things, London Mayor, 1st and 2nd Choice, Local council and London assembly member.

Unlike in Essex in London we get given large printed A4 sheets that once completed you do not fold but place, face down onto a Ramp that slides them into a big secure box where I guess they are scanned for the results.

It was to be a big election as its really the first time that the country could speak with their vote as to how they feel about the current government and way things are run.

Waking up this morning I am reminded much of 1997 when Labour won a landslide victory snatching power from the Tories after years of reign. This time the Tories have stormed ahead with 44% of the vote, Labour on 24% and Liberal Democrats on 25%, sliding Labour for the first time into 3rd Place. Of course these are only local council elections and no change of power will happen in Parliament and the biggest vote of them all, the Mayorall race as to who will head city hall is still to be anounced and we wait eagerly for the results!"!!!
