Easter Monday 2006 - Royal Vauxhall Tavern

Monday 17th April

Bank Holidays usually mean one of two things, either DTPM on the Sunday and a chill out or if its going to be nice, spend Monday at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.

I had wanted a way to get together with all of my friends at some stage over the weekend and have a bit of boogie together.

Left home early and arrived at the Tavern for just after 1:20pm, surprised to find that there was no line awaiting the opening at 2:00PM. Bank Holidays can be surprisingly busy.

Stood in the forming line for a while and got my wristband by 2:00. Mikey arrived somewhat shaken from having ridden a bus that he had been informed someone had been murdered on over the weekend (that’s nice dear). I asked him what a bus was, he said it was like a limo but the driver refused to carry your bags!

Wrist bands attached to arms we made our way to the Off Licence to buy some drinks and sat on the grassy knole (the park out the back of the Tavern) where everyone meets. In the summer months you can barely get on the hill for the crowds but with the weather still undecided as to what it was doing with cloud and sunshine breaks.

Stuart arrived from his lunch with Mark and Richard and the group began to slowly grow.

Edna’s performance began at around 530pm. Usually it’s the highlight of the afternoon but due to his Laryngitis and being unable to sing properly the show was a shadow of its usual self. Still being the pro that the Dame Edna Experience is, the Show Had to go on. His rendition of “Video Killed the Radio Star” through a megaphone into a Microphone was particularly good.

Met up with Big Bro Shaun (my ex flat mate from Vauxhall) and his partner Mike on the dance floor and bumped into other friends including Chris for a Bump and Grind to the music.

Left at 930PM and made my way to Man Bar to meet up with Richard & Stuart again. An unusual experience as the theme of the night was Boots only. There is something that somehow makes you feel almost equal to one another when you are all wearing nothing but footware. An unusual experience and a real eye opener. Richard and I left at 1130 and made our way homes on what was really a quite exhausting yet fabulous weekend.

Here, our beloved RVT!
