The first thing that I think of when I think of Ibiza is driving in Las Vegas with my dear friend J as the Vengaboys came on and she said “Oh I love this song, where going to Eat Pizza”. How I laughed as I informed her that it was actually Ibiza. But having never been it was one of these places that people always raved about.
Maybe I am missing something? I just don’t get it. It was a tiny little island with not a lot on it but for clubs & beaches.
Stuart and I arrived around 2AM and were picked up by Mark & Richard before making the short drive to the hotel. Stuart was mortified that there was no Duvet, then noticed that not only that but there was no television, no plug sockets, infact it was literally tilled walls and floor and a bed with a sheet and blanket. The Hilton this was not. The look on Stuarts face was priceless.
You could tell I am the youngest as they all wanted to go straight to bed. Waking on Wednesday in time to grab a quick coffee and head off on Richards Birthday Cruise. They had booked tickets for us all to take an hours catamaran across to an island in the Mediterranean.
The boat was packed full of very cute straight boys and girls and we arrived in time to have a celebratory glass of bubbles on the beach to celebrate Richards 40th Birthday. We then wandered along the golden sands and found a spot on the beach.
Unprepared for the day, (only knew I was heading out to Breakfast) with no book, Ipod or anything and with the 3 boys all dosing off into a sleep (feeling young again) I went for a walk. There literally was nothing on the island but for a couple of bars. That said, it was the most beautiful of beaches and the water was crystal clear and tepid warm. The sun scorched down at around 30 degrees and ensured we all left with some colour.
In the evening, post a quick shower we went into the Old Town high up on the hill within the fortified walls and enjoyed a very pleasant meal in a lovely restaurant before having several drinks in what I think Richard said was called the Avenue of Virgins but looked more like Diagonally from Harry Potter Movies.
Thursday we were up at 930 and headed off to the beach for more sun. Richard and Mark had hired a car but apparently there is the “Gay Coach” that takes you hourly to the Gay Beach”. This time prepared, Ipod, Magazine, Book, Phone etc I was more able to lie on and relax for the day. Again, beautiful sandy beaches and clear crystal water. We sat out till gone 5:00 before heading back into town to freshen up and head out for dinner on the sea front. As the sun went down and the breeze got up it seemed freezing but that could just be because we had been baking in the sun for hours all day.
Had a lovely dinner on the Quay Side and then time for a quick drink before my friends all came with me to the airport. It really was a 48 hour dip in and out of Ibiza. Was lovely to see Richard and be able to share with him on his 40th Birthday.
The plane home left the island at 0230AM and although its only an hour time difference the time of the flight meant I am all over the shop in my sleep patterns. I would have stayed longer this trip, Stuart will fly back this evening, but for the fact that its Gaydar Days at Alton Towers and I had booked this months ago.
The biggest post pride party and I’m just about in the mood to stay in and do nothing all weekend. Well you only live once eh?
