Considering how quickly tickets for major concerts seem to sell out these days and the fact that they sell directly to members of Robbie Williams dot com and not via any ticketing agencies I didn’t really expect to see Robbie in concert at all. So it was somewhat of a Surprise when just over a week ago, Emily called and asked if I was free to go and see Robbie on the 19th September. Despite the fact that tickets had sold out months ago, they had found some additional tickets now. Mainly caused by the fact that originally they had sold out the newly built Wembley Stadium. Only, its not been built yet. Delay after delay has meant that most of this years concerts have been moved from Wembley to other locations. Robbie included. But on the plus side it meant that we now got to go.
Working until 1700 at Canary Wharf I made my way to Euston to meet up with Emily and take a Train to Milton Keynes. About an hour north of London. Our dilemma would be if we actually make it home from Milton Keynes after the concert. We got into Milton Keynes, jumped a taxi to the bowl and found our way down to as close as we could get. Considering how late it already was we got to within about 50 Meters of the Stage. Lucky Bitches.
The show was warming up with Basement Jaxx who got the crowd into a bit of a warmed up frenzie and suddenly the lights dimmed, the music roared, the smoke machine bellowed. In a flash of flames as fireballs soared to the sky from all around the stage and across the massive Iron Structure that was the set. Possibly one of the largest stages I have ever seen. There he was, Son of England, possibly England’s biggest star today, Mister Robbie Williams. Or As Emily prefers to call him, her future husband.
The show started with some new ones, went through some classics like Strong, then Jonathan Wilkes joint him for a whole set of Swing.
A small pause for the finally had Robbie at the top of the 100 Foot structure, flames soaring all around him to possibly my faveourite Robbie track of all time, Let me Entertain you. Then the song that will always remind of my baby Dusan, Feel.
Somehow the lyrics seem so much more now, since he told me that it was his favourite song.
Come and hold my hand
I want to contact the living
Not sure I understand
This role I’ve been given
I sit and talk to god
But he just laughs at my plan
My head speaks a language
I don’t understand
I just wanna feel, real love
Feel the home that I live in
Cos I’ve got too much life running thru my veins
Going to waste
I don’t wanna die
But I ain’t keen on living either
Before I fall in love
I preparing to leave him
I Scare myself to death
That’s why I keep on running
Before I’ve arrived
I can see myself coming
I just wanna feel, real love, fell the home that I live in
Cos I’ve got too much life running thru my veins
Going to waste
And I need to feel, Real love and a love ever after
There’s a whole in my soul
I just wanna feel, real love, feel the home that I live in
I’ve got too much life, running through my veins
Going to waste
And I need to feel, feel love
And a love ever after
There is a hole in my soul
You can see it in my face
It’s a real big place
Come and hold my hand
Come and hold my hand
Come and hold my Hand
I wanna contact the living
Not sure I understand
Not sure I understand
What do you think?
Wrapping up with Angels, another song that can make you either smile with happiness or cry with sorrow, we were surely on a high as the entire 90,000 audience sang as loud as they could and ended on a high with Kids.
It was awesome. Fabulous to see that he really is such a great performer and even better on Stage than on television. Yet another concert under our belt for 2006, the year that will go down on record as possibly the best of my life. But having said that …. To be continued…..
