4 Years to go

With Apparantly 4 Billion people watching the 29th Olympic Games commenced in Bejing today. Lucky number 8. It was the the 08/08/08 and the Chinese think the number 8 is a lucky number. I was at work as the games kicked off but caught up thanks to the multiple news chanels we are now able to view.

The fireworks looked outstanding and the choreography amazing. But watching it on the television is like watching fiction. You dont feel any of the atmosphere. You dont feel the economic benefits. Four years from today the Olympic games will be here, in London. Excited? I am. I can rememeber when all of the applications were going through so many of my friends were against it. "It will cost us Millions", they would say. Millions, or rather Billions it may cost to put on but I have seen it turn a city around for the better. Salt Lake City is now a far more modern and efficient city thanks to the Olympic games. With the games comes the media. For 16 full days the World will be watching London, England. Thousands of media representitives from around the World will be here in my home town. When the opening Ceromony happens I wont have to view it on the television, I can walk up Shooters Hill and view the fireworks from the park. I'm excited and ready for the Olympic Games in London.

Did you know the last time that London held the Olympics previously of course, in 1912 and 1948. The bid for the latter apparantly, in Post War Europe London was the only country willing to host the games.

So why my excitement? I'm proud of my city. Its where I have made true friends and found my heart and soul. Its the place I have called home for most of my Adult Life. Its where I have shared precious memories and where I have fought for the love of my life.

The Eurovision Song Contest apparantly was set up to help boost relations between countries way back when. The fact that we cant win anymore with growing Europe is irrelevant over the fact that we have been at Peace within Europe since the 1940's. The Games represent that, Peace. It matters not what is going on in the World but proves that Mankind has the spirtit of survival and competition is at a the heart of that. Countries from around the globe will compete in 28 events for some 300 plus medals in just 16 days to proove who is the best in the World. Not who can build the biggest bomb or who has the strongest Army but who is the best at a particular sport.

Thats why I look forward to 4 years time when the games come to my city. I pray that with the games peace will come to the city too! As for you Olympiads, Good Luck. Oh and why did they ever stop competing naked?
