Pride Season is on us once again with our third Pride in about 4 weeks. Dusan missed this one as he had to work so after spending 2 hours at the gym I went into Soho for Soho Pride.
The square was heaving as always on these occasions with this years theme, Camp Gaydar. The line by 3PM was so long it was impossible to get into the square without queueing for 30 minutes so I wandered around and texted a few friends and managed to meet up with Lee & Matthew. We wandered around, enjoyed a Margarita and a few other drinks and then I bumped in to Roger & Angelo and Robbie. Thats the best thing about Pride. You bump into everyone you know.
Matthew and I agreed though, its not the same as Summer Rites when we had the whole of Brockwell Park to ourselves and some 4 tents to choose from in regards to dance areas.
I read tonight in the Pink Press that this may be the last year for Soho Pride. The London Mayors Office has revoked the funding of £10,000 they give annually. So once again Pride could be in Jepardy. You have to wonder though, why on earth the gay businesses in London don't pay for an event. Especially in the park. They would make a killing on drinks. I have to confess though it is rather fun to see the whole place pedestrianised and totally cosmopolitan. Happy Pride folks.
