Visiting Viking Part II

By the time we had a bit of a lie in the sun was out and a perfect day for sightseeing pursued, so we grabbed our cameras and took the DLR down to Cutty Sark and the Greenwich Pier to pick up the boat up the Thames. I thought with the weather being so nice it would be a perfect way to see some of the sites of London that Christine usually misses when we are on the train or tube.

We purchased our tickets at the booth which if you have a Travelcard or Oyster Card you can save a third off the price. It was Five Pounds for a single from Greenwich to Westminster which was about a 40 minute cruise.

From the Pier the boat went east slightly just giving you a chance to see the old Greenwich Hospital before doing a u-turn and making our way west to Westminster.

Pass dozens of river appartments then clear views of the sky scrapers of Canary Wharf, under Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, HMS Belfast, Oxo Tower, the South Bank, London Eye, the London Aquarium and fnally Parliament and Big Ben. We managed to get around 100 photos of the sites of London.

Once we dissembarked we walked over to Parliament Square and then up Whitehall stopping at Horseguard Parade for some pictures of the mounted guards. Quite by accident as it approached 4 PM they guards all marched and were inspected by a superior before they put the horses away for the evening. We watched the entire 20 minute ceromony, something I have never seen in all my years in London.

We stopped for a coffee at Starbucks and then made our way home to freshen up before heading back to town to meet another Disney friend, Mark. (Aka Lavern). We got as far as the DLR station and missed a train by a matter of seconds which is a double pain now that the DLR is only running every 10 minutes during the upgrade work.

Christine then realised that she had forgotten her phone and we had to go back again, meaning we missed another DLR. We didnt get back into Soho until 9PM.
After a reunion drink at the Duke of Wellington we went to Pierre Victoire for dinner and a catch up. It has been a full five years since the 3 of us last met up. I have the feeling Mark and I should make a trip to Norway sometime.

It was a late night getting home just after midnight, particuarly bad as I had to be up at 515 to get to the office. Doh.
